Temporary Detour at Tucson International Airport for Road Improvements

Travelers and other visitors to the Tucson International Airport (TUS) should give themselves a little extra time ahead of their next trip through the terminal starting Monday, September 13, 2021. A road improvement project will temporarily restrict or limit areas around the parking garage and rental car area. The upcoming construction and anticipated schedule is as follows:

September 17 – September 29

Airport Drive, which is the current exit route for the parking garage and rental car area, will be closed between Tucson Boulevard and Los Reales Road. The closure is colored below in green. During this phase of construction, drivers will need to follow detour signs leading to the southwest side of the garage.

September 30 – October 21

Once Airport Drive has reopened to traffic, Los Reales Road will be the focus of this project. Construction crews will focus on one lane of traffic at a time, which will cause Los Reales between Airport Drive and cargo facilities to the southwest to be reduced to one lane during business hours. The impacted area is colored orange and purple below.

Flag crews will help with the flow of traffic when it is reduced during business hours. When they are not present, traffic will resume flowing in both directions. This may cause a momentary delay in reaching the parking garage.

October 22 – November 29

The final month of construction is not expected to affect traffic. Anyone visiting the terminal at (TUS) without a need for the parking garage or rental cars should not have to worry about this roadwork, but it is being shared in order to assist with travel plans. Please consult the colored map below for a visual understanding of the work and its focus areas.
