The Tucson Airport Authority

The Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) is a unique independent nonprofit civic organization developed by Tucson business leaders and created through Arizona state charter in 1948. The authority operates Tucson International Airport (TUS), the region’s commercial airport, and Ryan Airfield (RYN), a general aviation reliever airport west of Tucson.

The TAA is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of at least seven but not more than 11 persons elected from among the 60 women and men who are active members. TAA membership is comprised of residents living within the service areas of TUS and RYN. Prospective members are civic leaders who are nominated and voted upon by the active membership. TAA members receive no compensation. The TAA President and CEO reports to the Board of Directors. Six vice presidents report to the CEO and together they comprise the Executive Team.

TUS is Southern Arizona’s commercial airport serving diverse groups of aircraft including passenger airlines, cargo carriers, military aircraft, business jets and other general aviation users. TUS encompasses 8,282 acres with nearly 2.5 million square feet under roof in 130 buildings

TUS is a Port of Entry airport offering full-time services by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Ryan Tower
Ryan Airfield (RYN)

9698 W. Ajo Highway

On 1,876 acres about 12 miles west of Tucson, RYN serves general aviation and military users. It is the only airport in Southern Arizona with an air traffic control tower staffed under the Federal Aviation Administration’s Contract Tower program.

Ryan has approximately 30 tenants providing services to general aviation as well as charter operators and flight instruction facilities.
