Over 25 years ago, the Tucson Airport Authority petitioned the Arizona State legislature to create a police department that would be dedicated to the airport. TAA, a civic, non-profit organization formed in 1948 by Arizona state charter, over-sees the operation of Tucson International Airport and Ryan Airfield. Previously, TAA obtained police services from local law enforcement agencies for calls on airport properties. This type of enforcement is common to this day at the majority of airports in the state and country, which are operated municipally. By instituting a police department, TAA is able to maintain a higher level of police presence with a department that has in-depth knowledge of airport operations
The TAA Police force are graduates of the local law enforcement training academy and are certified as state police officers. Many of the officers have come from different police agencies prior to working for TAA.
The men and women of the department are justly proud of their fine tradition of law enforcement professionalism and are actively seeking to recruit new members of the team.
