Tucson International Airport Tucson Airport Authority Ryan Airfield

About the Airport

Ryan Airfield (RYN), 9698 W. Ajo Highway, is about 14 road miles southwest of Tucson at the intersection West Valencia Road. On 1,876 acres, Ryan has more than a dozen tenants providing services to general aviation as well as charter operators and flight instruction facilities.

The air traffic control tower is operated under the Federal Aviation Administration’s Contract Tower Program and is staffed 6 a.m.-8 p.m. daily. More specific information about the general airport layout is available on the pilot information page here and the airport services page here.

Ryan Airfield (RYN), along with Tucson International Airport (TUS), comprise the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) airport system. Ryan Airfield was created in the 1940s as a training camp for the Army Air Corps. After the war, the State of Arizona approached the TAA about operating the airfield. The state deeded the land to the City of Tucson and the TAA operates under a long-term lease.
