About 3 miles northwest of downtown San Jose, Mineta airport serves the south San Francisco Bay Area communities that make up Silicon Valley, including Cupertino, Milpitas, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Stanford and Sunnyvale. Levi’s (San Francisco 49ers) Stadium in Santa Clara is about 6 miles, less than 15 minutes in normal traffic, northwest of Mineta Airport. Most other Silicon Valley destinations are less than 30 minutes away. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is about 34 miles south, or about 45 minutes drive time.
San Jose’s Mineta airport has two terminals with one long concourse that connects them post-security. Gates 1-16 are served through Terminal A and gates 17-35 are served through Terminal B.
Ground transportation from the airport includes app-based ride services and taxis, which can be met curbside outside baggage claim, and pre-arranged car and limo services, which are met at locations in parking facilities (confirm location when making a reservation). Valley Transit Authority (VTA) offers a Free Airport Flyer, Route 10, that stops in front of both terminals and connects the airport to a VTA Light Rail station and the Santa Clara Transit Center, where connections can be made to other bus lines; CalTrain going north up the peninsula to San Francisco and Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor train that goes north along the East Bay. VTA’s Route 10 operates every 15-30 minutes depending on the time and day.
Southwest Airlines flights arrive and depart SJC at gates 12-14 in Terminal A and gates 19-26 and 31-35 in Terminal B. Connecting passengers can reach all gates without exiting TSA security. Southwest’s check-in counter is in Terminal B.
As the hub of Silicon Valley’s tech industries, San Jose is a popular destination for tourists and business travelers. At the south end of San Francisco Bay, the airport is also within reasonable distance of central California coastal areas, including Santa Cruz and Monterey.
