Danette Bewley has been promoted to Vice President of Operations and Projects/Chief Operating Officer for the Tucson Airport Authority.
In making the announcement, TAA President and CEO Bonnie Allin said, "Danette's knowledge and proven leadership from her 24 years of experience in all facets of commercial airport management will be a tremendous asset to TAA as we continue to provide exceptional aviation and customer services to our community."
Bewley joined TAA in June 2012 as Director of Operations and was promoted to Senior Director of Operations and Maintenance in February 2013.
In her new role, she will oversee TAA's Operations/Projects Division which includes operations, communications, maintenance and custodial services, public safety, security, emergency management, capital development and grant programs for both Tucson International Airport and Ryan Airfield.
"This is an incredible opportunity to lead an exceptional group of professionals as we continue to support the TAA's vision, mission and strategic plan," Bewley said.
Before joining the TAA, Bewley held management positions with the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority and the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. Like TAA, all operate commercial service airports.
"I entered the aviation industry at birth," says Bewley, noting that her father was a Navy fighter pilot and commercial airline pilot for more than 35 years. "I truly enjoy the aviation industry and I've had great mentors along the way who helped guide my career."
Bewley has earned the Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) designation from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), has been a member of AAAE's Board of Director and served 11 years on the Board of Examiners, including five as its chair. She earned her bachelor's degree and two master's degrees from National University in San Diego.
Bewley's appointment takes effect May 27, commensurate with the retirement of Jim Garcia, as Vice President of Operations.
